A winter snack for treating yourself and your family. Black sesame, walnuts, and dried dates often sit in the pantry until they expire, but these sesame balls are easy enough to actually keep up with — unlike store-bought versions, which tend to be pricey and heavily sweetened. The whole thing takes about half an hour, and even a clumsy beginner can pull it off. The original batch of 250 g sesame plus 15 walnuts made 28 balls — about a month's supply at one per day.

Steps

  1. Easy Crispy Black Sesame Balls — step 1 visual checkpoint.

Get the toasted (already-cooked) black sesame ready. If your sesame is raw, toast it in a dry pan over low heat first.

✅ Done when: The sesame is fragrant and toasted, ready to mix.

Heat an empty pan over medium-low heat until hot (about 70-80% heated), then turn the heat to low and add the honey. Stir constantly; honey foams easily, so start stirring as soon as it goes in.

✅ Done when: Small bubbles appear in the honey over low heat.

Add the black sesame and fold until every bit of sesame is coated with honey. If the honey feels like too much, work in chopped walnuts; you can also add other chopped nuts or chopped dried dates to taste.

✅ Done when: The sesame and honey are evenly combined with no dry sesame left.

While the mixture is still warm (not too hot — wear gloves), roll it into balls. Let them cool completely, then seal them however you like. Important: do not seal them before they are fully cooled.

✅ Done when: Each ball holds its shape and is fully cooled before sealing.

Enjoy — crispy outside, rich inside. Store sealed; they stay crispy for about half a month.

✅ Done when: The balls remain crisp and fragrant even after weeks of sealed storage.
