Taste & Role
🐟 UmamiSavory
A versatile all-purpose mushroom used in stir-fries, soups, braises, and hot pot. They soak up sauces well, add a meaty bite and savory depth, and pair nicely with leafy greens, pork, and chicken.
What it is
Button mushrooms are small cultivated mushrooms with smooth white caps, firm flesh, and short stems. They are the most widely available fresh mushroom in American grocery stores. In Chinese, kou mo historically referred to a prized wild mushroom from northern China, but today the term commonly refers to these fresh white button mushrooms.
