Chopzen (chopzen.com) is a Chinese cooking companion for home cooks. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
1. Data we collect
Account data: your email address, display name, handle and profile you choose to publish. Activity data: the recipes you favorite, your pantry items, shopping lists, cooking sessions and history, and your kitchen profile (spice level, portions, equipment, dietary requirements and allergen limits) once you enable personalization. Technical data: session cookies needed to keep you signed in, and basic request logs for security and abuse prevention.
2. Google sign-in
You can sign in with Google. When you do, Google shares your name, email address and a stable account identifier with us; we use them only to create or sign you into your Chopzen account. We never post anything to Google on your behalf and we do not import your Google profile picture automatically. You can review or remove this connection anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
3. How we use data
We use your data to provide the service: keeping you signed in, remembering your pantry and favorites, tailoring recipes to your kitchen profile, and sending service emails (verification, password reset). Marketing emails are only sent if you opt in, and you can opt out anytime.
4. Cookies
We set a small number of first-party cookies: a session cookie and a CSRF security cookie when you sign in, and a language cookie that remembers your preferred locale. Our advertising and measurement partners also set cookies and similar technologies when their services run — see “Advertising and analytics” below. You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings; blocking them may affect sign-in and language preferences.
5. Retention, export and deletion
We keep your data while your account exists. You can export a machine-readable copy of your personal data from your account page at any time. Requesting deletion starts a 30-day recovery window, after which your account and personal data are permanently deleted; public handles are retired and never reused.

7. Advertising and analytics
The site uses Google AdSense to show advertising, and Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages visited, approximate region, device and browser type). Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies, including to serve personalized advertising where you have consented or where the law otherwise permits. These services run across the site — including account and sign-in pages — and process data as described in Google’s and Vercel’s own privacy policies.
8. Your advertising choices
Where the law requires consent for personalized advertising or measurement cookies, we ask through Google's certified consent banner (Funding Choices) before they run; analytics stays cookie-free until consent is granted. You can also review or limit ad personalization in your Google Account at adssettings.google.com, opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and manage vendor choices at aboutads.info/choices (US) or youradchoices.eu (EU).
