A delicious Homestyle Braised Fish recipe.


Heat the wok and coat it with oil — swirl the oil around the hot wok three times (three times, this is important!) so the fish won’t stick or break.

Slice some king oyster mushrooms and soak wood ear mushrooms. Spread them on the bottom of the pot as a bed.

Pan-fry the fish until both sides are golden brown. Once you place the fish in the pan, do not move it — this prevents it from breaking. Resist the urge to touch it!

Set the fried fish aside. In the same pan, add star anise, ginger, and scallions. Stir-fry until fragrant, then spread the king oyster mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms on top.





Braise until the flavors are absorbed, then adjust the seasoning to taste. Get ready to reduce the sauce.
