Dads, listen up: get the wok ripping hot before the beef touches it or you'll steam it instead of searing it — learned that the loud way. Kids rated it a 9 and an 8, which is basically a Michelin star in my house. I doubled the sauce because we're a saucy-over-rice family and nobody complained.

The sweet potato starch coating is the real MVP here — it locked in the juices so every rib came out tender instead of dry, and my kids scored it a 9/10, which is basically a Michelin star in my kitchen. Even my picky six-year-old asked for the 'garlic meat' again the next night.

Made this for taco night with the kids, served the beef bites in warm tortillas with some quick pickled onions. Jake gave it a 6 — said the chili powder was "spicy weird" — and Emma gave it a 7, mostly for the garlic part. I think I had the oil a touch too hot because the outside went dark before the middle was done, so I'd pull them a bit earlier next time.

Kids rated it a 7 out of 10, which for a dish with visible green things in it is basically a standing ovation. I think my mushrooms came out watery though — is my pan not hot enough, or am I just crowding too many in at once?

Whipped this up for me and the girls last Friday and I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. I served it straight from the pot in the middle of the table with extra soy sauce on the side, and the seared salmon on top made it look way fancier than the effort involved. The nine-year-old gave it a 9/10 and said the 'soft fish rice' was her favorite part, while the eleven-year-old docked it a point for the mushrooms but still cleaned her bowl. That's a new family record for a recipe that isn't tacos, so it's earned a permanent spot in the rotation.

The ice water trick in the filling is the real MVP here — pork stayed juicy even after my youngest flatbread sat around getting cold. Kids gave it a 9 and an 8.5, which around here is basically a standing ovation. Adding it to taco night rotation immediately.

Whipped this up for me and the two kids on a taco-night off week, figuring cold salad was a hard sell. Served it in little bowls as a 'crunchy appetizer' before dinner and both kids started rating the crunch like it was a chip competition — my daughter gave the wood ears a 9, which has never happened with a vegetable. My son picked around the chiles but ate everything else. Total was a solid 8/10 from the panel, which around here is basically a trophy. Already been asked to make it again Friday.

Made this with chuck roast instead of brisket because that's what was on sale, and honestly my kids still gave it a 10 and a 9.5, which is basically a standing ovation in my house. The rock sugar caramel step felt fancy but it's just patience. Divorced dad win number six this year.
