Sweet and Sour Crispy Tofu

Ingredients

  • 10g cornstarch
  • a pinch scallion
  • 5g sugar
  • 1 vinegar
  • 3 tomato sauce
  • 1 light soy sauce
  • 1g salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 oyster sauce
  • 0.5 dark soy sauce
  • 1 minced garlic

Instructions

  1. Tofu made this way is so good you would not trade it for meat. Absolutely delicious with rice!
  2. Cut the tofu into thick slices. Coat both sides with cornstarch, then dip in beaten egg. Heat oil in a pan to about 60% hot. Add the tofu and pan-fry over low heat until both sides are golden. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce: in a bowl, combine minced garlic, 1 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tsp oyster sauce, 0.5 tbsp dark soy sauce, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp cornstarch, 3 tbsp tomato sauce, and a splash of water. Stir well. Leave a little oil in the pan, add the fried tofu, pour in the sauce, and simmer over low heat until thickened. Sprinkle with scallions before serving.
