Soul-Satisfying Braised Tofu
Ingredients
- 3-4 pieces firm tofu
- 2 slices ginger
- 3 cloves garlic
- 3 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 scallions
- 3 bird's eye chili
- 1 tbsp starch
Instructions
- Cut tofu into pieces and pan-fry over medium-low heat until both sides are golden. Remove and set aside.
- Mince ginger and garlic. Mince bird's eye chili. Separate scallion whites and greens, mincing them separately.
- Prepare the sauce: 3 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tbsp vinegar, and 1 tsp sugar.
- Using the remaining oil, sauté scallion whites, garlic, ginger, and bird's eye chili until fragrant.
- Add the fried tofu and toss to combine.
- Pour in the sauce and mix well.
- Prepare a small bowl of water with 1 tbsp starch dissolved in it.
- Pour the starch water into the pan and simmer over low heat for 1 minute.
- Reduce the sauce until thick and glossy. Sprinkle with scallion greens and serve.
