Soul-Satisfying Braised Tofu

Ingredients

  • 3-4 pieces firm tofu
  • 2 slices ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 scallions
  • 3 bird's eye chili
  • 1 tbsp starch

Instructions

  1. Cut tofu into pieces and pan-fry over medium-low heat until both sides are golden. Remove and set aside.
  2. Mince ginger and garlic. Mince bird's eye chili. Separate scallion whites and greens, mincing them separately.
  3. Prepare the sauce: 3 tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tbsp vinegar, and 1 tsp sugar.
  4. Using the remaining oil, sauté scallion whites, garlic, ginger, and bird's eye chili until fragrant.
  5. Add the fried tofu and toss to combine.
  6. Pour in the sauce and mix well.
  7. Prepare a small bowl of water with 1 tbsp starch dissolved in it.
  8. Pour the starch water into the pan and simmer over low heat for 1 minute.
  9. Reduce the sauce until thick and glossy. Sprinkle with scallion greens and serve.
  10. A perfect rice-pairing braised tofu is born!
